Herring Gull - BLACK [D] / GREEN [A] / white

European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), 26th calendar year
Leiden, Herengracht, January 20, 2011. Black D, Green A, a European Herring Gull in its 26th calendar year.
I've observed this gull many times since the summer of 2009, between the months of January and September, after which it disappears to an unknown wintering location. This is the first sighting of this individual in 2011. It's good to see it back and in good condition again.

Note the large mirrors on P10 and especially the small mirrors on the inner webs of P9. In 2009, only the left wing had a small mirror on P9, but on the outer web (see this image), while in 2010 it was P9 in only the right wing which had a small mirror (but like now on the inner web, see this image).
Ringinfo: ringed as juvenile on July 10, 1986 in the dunes of Wassenaar near the Dutch coast. Sex: male.

Zilvermeeuw (Larus argentatus) 26ste kalenderjaar
Herengracht, Leiden, 20 januari 2011. Zwart D, Groen A (ZDGA), een Zilvermeeuw in z'n 26ste kalenderjaar.
Sinds de zomer van 2009 heb ik deze meeuw veelvuldig waargenomen, in de maanden van januari tot september, waarna hij vertrekt naar een onbekende winterlokatie. Dit is de eerste waarneming van dit individu in 2011. Het is goed om hem weer terug te zien en om vast te kunnen stellen dat hij in een goede conditie verkeerd.

P10 heeft een grote spiegel die niet tot in de vleugelpunt rijkt. Interessant om te zien zijn de kleine spiegels op de binnenvlag van P9 in beide vleugels. In 2009 had alleen de linkervleugel een kleine witte spiegel op P9, maar toen op de buitenvlag (zie deze foto). In 2010 was er alleen in de rechtervleugel een kleine spiegel op P9 te zien, net als nu op de binnenvlag (zie deze foto).
Ringdatum: 10 juli 1986 te Wassenaar. Geslacht: man. Leeftijd: juveniel.
