Leiden, Maresingel, The Netherlands, June 4, 2011. Blue VE1E. Second-calendar year Lesser Black-backed Gull, presumed Norwegian Lesser Black-backed Gull (L. f. intermedius), moulting to second-winter plumage (second basic, second cycle). Active moult can be seen in the wings where primaries P1 to P6 are new second-generation featheres, P7 is half-grown, and P8 to P10 are old. Secondaries S1 to S3 are also new second-generation feathers.
Primary moult score: 33 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=5, P5=5, P6=5, P7=3, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).

Kleine Mantelmeeuw (Larus fuscus, vermoedelijk intermedius), 2de kalenderjaar
Maresingel, Leiden, 4 juni 2011. Blauw VE1E. Tweede-kalenderjaar Kleine Mantelmeeuw, vermoedelijk een Noorse (L. f. intermedius), ruiend naar tweede-winterkleed. De actieve rui is duidelijk waarneembaar in de vleugels waar handpennen P1 tot P6 nieuwe, tweede-generatie veren zijn, P7 half volgroeid is, en P8 tot P10 nog de oude, eerste-generatie veren zijn. Armpennen S1 tot S3 zijn ook nieuwe, tweede-generatie veren.
