IJmuiden, North pier, The Netherlands, September 5, 2010. Yellow E096, Yellow E. Adult European Herring Gull, moulting to winter plumage (prebasic moult). P1 to P4 are new and fully grown, P5 is mostly grown, P6 is growing and P7 has been shed. The outer greater coverts are missing, thereby exposing the white base of the underlying secondaries.

Noordpier, IJmuiden, 5 september 2010.Geel E096, Geel E. Adulte Zilvermeeuw, ruiend naar winterkleed. P1 t/m P4 zijn nieuw en volgroeid, P5 is 3/4 volgroeid, P6 is groeiende, P7 mist. Door de missende buitenste grote dekveren is de witte basis van de onderliggende armpennen goed te zien.
